Ban on Raw Egg Mayonnaise for Another Year 🚫🥚

Tamil Nadu Extends Ban on Raw Egg Mayonnaise for Another Year 🚫🥚

The Tamil Nadu government has officially extended the ban on the manufacture, storage, and sale of mayonnaise made from raw eggs for one more year, effective from April 8, 2026.

While mayonnaise is a staple for our favorite shawarmas and grills, the health risks associated with raw egg versions are too significant to ignore. Here is why the Food Safety Department is taking this step:

🔹 The Salmonella Risk: Raw eggs are high-risk carriers of bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria.

🔹 Storage Sensitivity: In our tropical climate, raw egg-based emulsions can spoil rapidly if not kept at precise temperatures, leading to severe food poisoning.

🔹 Public Safety: Following multiple health incidents and inspections, the government is prioritising consumer well-being by enforcing this "provisional risk management" measure.

What does this mean for Food Business Operators (FBOs)?

Restaurants and kiosks are encouraged to switch to veg mayonnaise  to ensure they stay compliant and keep their customers safe.

Let's support the move toward safer food standards in our city. Health over taste, always! 🥗🙌
