Newspaper is not a packing material

We all have seen small food business operators use newspaper for packing the food products, we have accepted the package but have we ever realised the danger involved in the newspaper packaging?

Yes, newspaper packing has some harmful effects, so FSSAI has restricted the usage of newspaper for packing food products, as the ink in the newspaper has various bioactive materials which are can cause health issues when ingested.

Newspaper ink also contain heavy metals like lead which are dangerous to human health so FSSAI has strictly informed all food business operators not to use newspaper for packing food products.

FSSAI has also instructed state food authorities to monitor the food business operators not using the newspaper as a packing material
